Thanks to those on this thread (and in the forum in general) that helped me with tire research. I just had 275/55 R20 Continental TerrainContacts installed this morning. They might be a little louder (not much though) than the stock Bridgestones they replaced but they definitely look better and feel pretty good.
FYI, 245/70/17 and 265/65/17 are .2% difference in tire size via miata tire size calculator and the price jumps up over $40 for the 265s. Not worth it.
